The Golden Hour: How One Hour Changed My Life
At night I used to find myself reflecting on the day and trying to figure out exactly what I had spent the past 14 hours doing. As a stay-at-home mom, it seemed like all I was doing was meeting the basic needs of my kids (and sometimes myself). I was spending my days feeling like I was treading water. I never seemed to be able to get caught up on laundry or dishes, my morning cup of coffee would be reheated three times before giving up on trying to drink it warm and none of my personal health goals were being reached. I spent a lot of time online chatting with other moms in the same boat, so I didn’t feel so alone in the struggle of motherhood. Then one morning, I decided after nursing my baby back to sleep at 5 am, I would stay up while the house was quiet.
It was life changing.
That morning, I drank hot coffee, made a healthy breakfast and had quiet time to myself for one simple hour. It may seem minor, but that one hour impacted my mindset for the entire day. That one hour let me “fill my pitcher” to be able to meet the needs of others throughout the day. I was in a better mood and able to handle challenges more effectively instead of feeling defeated. Now when I go online to reach out to other moms, instead of just commiserating, I can be encouraging and have a much more positive perspective to share.
What have you found that has had a positive influence on your day? I would love to hear your comments in the section below!
